  • Jubilee Party has officially declared Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
  • Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni expressed confidence in Matiang’i defeating President William Ruto.
  • Calls were made to support minority communities for the presidency.
  • Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka also endorsed Matiang’i, urging unity among political leaders for his success.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has announced that it will support Fred Matiang’i, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, as its flag bearer in the 2027 general elections. The party’s Secretary-General, Jeremiah Kioni, made the declaration during a leadership meeting in Narok on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

“We as the Jubilee Party have our candidate, Fred Matiang’i. He will face off with the others to ensure Ruto goes home,” Kioni affirmed, expressing confidence in Matiang’i’s ability to unseat President William Ruto.

Kioni further urged Kenyans, particularly those from the Mount Kenya Region, to support a candidate from a minority community, emphasizing the need for inclusivity.

“We want a President from a small community. Let us step aside and let someone else in. Let us unite and vote as one,” Kioni said.

Senator Onyonka Joins the Endorsement

Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka also endorsed Matiang’i, emphasizing the importance of unity across political divides to secure his victory.

“We know that Matiang’i is going to win, but he cannot do it alone. We are going to talk to everybody. We will talk to Kalonzo, Gachagua, Uhuru, and Raila for support,” Senator Onyonka stated.

The Jubilee Party’s backing of Matiang’i signals the beginning of preparations for the 2027 elections, with calls for unity and inclusivity taking center stage. As momentum builds, it remains to be seen how this endorsement will reshape Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the polls.
