Mt. Kenya Consultations
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting with ex-leaders from the Mt. Kenya region on December 30 to chart a political course for the coming year. Gachagua emphasized the importance of reflecting on their current standing and exploring strategies to strengthen their political influence.
Key attendees included former MPs Peter Mwathi, Jude Njomo, and Ngunjiri Wambugu, alongside notable ex-MCAs and youth leaders. The discussions were part of Gachagua’s broader efforts to consolidate support in Mt. Kenya, particularly after his impeachment earlier this year.
Focus on Western Kenya
Gachagua has also been actively engaging Western Kenya leaders, urging the region to leverage its voter potential. Speaking in Kakamega, he highlighted the region’s capacity to mobilize five million voters, encouraging higher turnout and unity.
“Imagine the impact if turnout here reached 95 or even 99 percent,” he stated, urging leaders to reduce reliance on external brokers and negotiate directly for regional interests.
Gachagua commended leaders like Eugene Wamalwa, Cleophas Malala, and George Natembeya for uniting Western Kenya.
As 2025 approaches, Gachagua’s strategic moves underscore his ambition to rebuild political influence in Mt. Kenya and play a pivotal role in shaping Western Kenya’s political landscape. His engagements signal a focus on regional unity and voter mobilization as crucial pillars for future success.
