After years away from the media spotlight, journalist Kimani Mbugua is making a significant comeback. Comedian and media personality Oga Obinna has hired Mbugua to join Obinna TV, with his new role set to begin in January 2025.
A New Chapter
Kimani Mbugua will head the current affairs department at Obinna TV and manage digital streamlining activities at Obinna Studios. The opportunity is a fresh start for the journalist, who previously stepped back from the limelight to focus on his mental health.
Oga Obinna shared his motivation for bringing Mbugua on board:
“I want to see him thrive again, with a new name and a stable source of income.”
Kimani’s Career and Challenges
Mbugua’s media career began at Nation FM, followed by a successful stint at Royal Media Services, where he worked for Citizen TV, Inooro TV, and Hot 96. In 2020, he stepped away from the public eye to address personal struggles, including a battle with bipolar disorder.
Recently discharged from a rehabilitation center, Mbugua is now on a journey of recovery and rediscovery. In October, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko celebrated his progress, sharing a video of Mbugua singing Sauti Sol’s Feel My Love.
Kimani Mbugua’s return to media is a story of resilience and second chances. With his new role at Obinna TV, he is set to reclaim his place in the industry while inspiring others facing similar challenges.
