Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has disclosed that retired soldiers have stepped in to provide security for his homes. This comes amid claims that his official security team has been reduced and withdrawn since November 2024.
Security Team Reduced
Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV, Gachagua said his government-assigned security team had not been fully present since the consecration of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u in Embu County on November 16, 2024. He noted that only six officers had been allocated to him—four at his home and two as private guards.
Retired Soldiers Step In
Gachagua explained that retired officers, including those from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Kenya Forest Service (KFS), have volunteered to guard his homes. He believes this shows solidarity from those who support him.
“When they saw what happened to me in Limuru, about 300 retired officers came forward to offer their services. They are guarding my homes now,” he stated.
Alleged Assassination Attempts
Gachagua also alleged that his life is at risk, claiming there have been attempts to assassinate him. He expressed gratitude for the retired officers’ support and said he trusts God to watch over him. “Above all, God is the head of all security forces,” he added.
The former deputy president has turned to retired soldiers for protection amid claims of reduced government security and threats to his life. His comments highlight ongoing concerns about his safety following his impeachment.
