  • The EACC is investigating 47 public officials over corruption claims totaling Ksh2.1 billion.
  • Key figures include Gladys Boss Shollei, ex-Governors Mohamed Mohamoud and Alex Tolgos, and KeRRA accountants.
  • Allegations range from tender irregularities to abuse of office and unlawful property acquisition.
  • The EACC has forwarded its findings to the ODPP for potential criminal charges.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into 47 public officials implicated in corruption scandals amounting to Ksh2.1 billion. The suspects include high-profile leaders and government officials accused of abuse of office, tender irregularities, and misuse of public funds.

High-Profile Cases

  1. Gladys Boss Shollei
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker is under scrutiny for alleged abuse of office during her time as Judiciary Registrar. She is accused of irregularly approving the purchase of a Chief Justice’s residence for Ksh310 million without proper procurement procedures. The residence remains unoccupied, and the EACC has recommended charges against Shollei and her deputy.
  2. Mohamed Mohamoud
The former Wajir Governor is accused of tender irregularities involving Ksh1.2 billion. Allegations implicate his wife, daughter, an aide, and directors of 12 companies linked to them. Payments to these companies reportedly lacked proper documentation, suggesting financial impropriety during his administration.
  3. Alex Tolgos
The former Elgeyo Marakwet Governor faces allegations of manipulating a tender worth Ksh1.8 million for petroleum product procurement. The EACC claims the tender favored Cobcom Petroleum Limited, a company allegedly tied to Tolgos and his associates.
  4. KeRRA Accountants
Three senior accountants from the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) and their spouses are accused of illegally acquiring property worth Ksh274 million. The properties are allegedly linked to manipulated tenders and misuse of public funds.

EACC’s Findings

The EACC has submitted its findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and possible criminal charges. These cases highlight ongoing corruption issues in public institutions and underscore the need for stronger accountability mechanisms.

The investigations by the EACC are a critical step toward addressing corruption in Kenya. If prosecuted, these cases could serve as a warning to public officials and reinforce the importance of transparency and integrity in government operations.
