Tanzania’s national football team, Taifa Stars, is celebrating a historic achievement after securing a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco. Their qualification comes with a generous reward of TSh700 million (approximately KSh35 million) from President Samia Suluhu, highlighting her continued support for sports in the country.

Taifa Stars’ Triumph

Taifa Stars clinched their Afcon ticket with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Guinea in a Group H qualifier at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. Simon Msuva emerged as the hero of the night, scoring the decisive goal in the 61st minute after an assist from Mudathir Yahya.

President Suluhu’s gesture reflects her appreciation for the team’s dedication and success. “You’ve made Tanzania proud,” she remarked, encouraging the team to aim even higher in the upcoming tournament.

Kenya’s Afcon Dreams Dashed

While Tanzania celebrates, Kenya’s Harambee Stars face disappointment after their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Afcon were dashed. A 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in their penultimate Group J match ended their chances of advancing to the tournament.

Tanzania’s qualification for Afcon 2025 not only boosts national pride but also underscores the importance of investing in sports. As Taifa Stars prepare for the continental stage, they carry the hopes of their nation. Meanwhile, Kenya faces the challenge of rebuilding and strategizing for future tournaments.
