The Kenya Kwanza Government has initiated the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line from Naivasha to Malaba, passing through Bomet. This project, which marks the start of Phase 2B from Narok to Kisumu, has officially commenced with activities like resettlement of displaced individuals and survey work.
To oversee the progress, a Kenya Railways team led by the General Manager of Technical Services, Eng. Tobias Otieno visited the Bomet County Governor’s office. They were welcomed by County Secretary Simon Lang’at, representing Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok.
Also in attendance were:
- Eng. Ndung’u Waititu and George Kimeu from APEC Consortium Ltd.
- Eng. Nathaniel Ochieng’ from Kenya Railways.
- Rehema Kiteto, representing the County Commissioner’s office.
The SGR extension is poised to improve regional trade by enhancing connectivity and boosting passenger transport. It also promises to spur economic growth in areas along the railway route.
