  • Despite his financial support, Matubia struggled to put her dreams on hold.
  • Their youth and lack of mentorship also contributed to the challenges in their marriage.

Actress Jackie Matubia has shared personal insights into her divorce from ex-husband Kennedy Njogu. She revealed that their differing expectations about her role in the marriage played a significant part in their separation. Matubia, now 34, opened up about her struggles as a young wife and mother.

Matubia explained that Njogu, whom she married at 23, envisioned her as a stay-at-home mom, a role she couldn’t embrace.

“I was married to a man who ensured I never had to ask for anything—he always provided. But he wanted me to be a stay-at-home mom, which conflicted with my personality. I’ve always been the type to work and pursue something for myself,” she shared.

While acknowledging the value of being a housewife for some women, Matubia noted it wasn’t suitable for her. “Being confined at home just didn’t align with who I am. I have ambitions and a vision I want to achieve,” she added.

Matubia also cited their young age at marriage as another challenge. “We were both 23 when we got married and juggling careers, parenthood, and marriage was overwhelming. We didn’t have mentors to guide us through it,” she admitted.

The couple, who began their relationship in 2014, faced frequent conflicts, leading to an on-and-off marriage that lasted seven years. Matubia eventually made the decision to walk away in 2019 after realizing the toll it was taking on her well-being.

Reflecting on the experience, Matubia highlighted the importance of personal growth and following one’s passions. Her story serves as a reminder that marriage requires alignment in values and support for individual aspirations to thrive.
