Fred Matiang’i, the former Kenyan Interior Cabinet Secretary, is taking significant steps towards his 2027 presidential bid. On July 29, 2024, he signed a deal with Dickens & Madson, a well-known Canadian lobbying firm, to help him build his campaign and improve his public image.

The agreement involves a large sum of money, including an initial fee of $65,000 (Ksh. 8.4 million) and a monthly retainer of $250,000 (Ksh. 32.3 million). The firm’s main role is to help Matiang’i get more media attention, create campaign materials, and lobby U.S. government officials to support him.

Even though Matiang’i stepped away from politics in 2022 after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term ended, this deal signals that he may be getting ready to run for president in 2027. He has not spoken openly about his plans, but this new partnership shows he’s preparing to return to politics with expert support.

Dickens & Madson is known for working with powerful African leaders, such as Robert Mugabe and Khalifa Haftar. They also helped manage the public image of Sudan’s military regime after a 2019 coup.

This partnership with Dickens & Madson is a big move in Matiang’i’s plan to run for president in 2027. It shows he’s working on a well-backed campaign and aims to become a strong candidate in the next election.
