Francis Atwoli, the Secretary General of COTU, has expressed strong doubts about the opposition’s ability to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Elections. Speaking on the JKL Show, Atwoli pointed to Ruto’s unmatched strategic skills and resources as significant hurdles.

During the interview, Atwoli emphasized the high cost of mounting a presidential campaign in Kenya, suggesting that the opposition lacks the necessary machinery and preparation.

“The people claiming they want to unseat Ruto in 2027 are just making noise. Some are still researching to gauge their popularity,” he remarked.

Reflecting on the 2022 elections, Atwoli praised Ruto’s ability to win against a united front comprising Raila Odinga, then-President Uhuru Kenyatta, and state resources.

“Ruto showed us dust despite the odds,” Atwoli noted, predicting that Ruto’s incumbency will make him even harder to defeat in 2027.

He further pointed out Ruto’s strategic government appointments and ongoing grassroots mobilization as part of his preparation for reelection.

“With the path Ruto is taking, he will be declared President by 10 AM on election day,” Atwoli concluded with a bold prediction.

Despite ongoing political chatter, Atwoli dismissed the impact of issues like the potential impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua on Ruto’s re-election bid, maintaining that Ruto’s strategies remain firmly on track.
