Kenya’s Gen Z youth are facing a significant division as two prominent leaders, Eric Omondi and Kebaso Morara, issue conflicting instructions regarding Mashujaa Day celebrations. What was initially planned as a unified event has now sparked confusion and mixed reactions among the young people.

Eric Omondi, a notable figure within the Gen Z movement, previously announced that Mashujaa Day would be celebrated at Uhuru Park to honor the fallen heroes of the June 25 mega protests. The announcement had generated anticipation, with many Gen Z members planning to attend the event in Nairobi.

However, in an unexpected turn, Kebaso Morara, another influential leader within the movement, called for the youth to gather in Narok instead. His sudden change of plans has left many confused, creating a visible division within the group. Online reactions, particularly on TikTok, reveal that some young people still plan to attend the Uhuru Park event, while others are unsure which location to support.

This division among Gen Z leaders has sparked a debate about the unity and direction of the movement, with many calling for clarity as Mashujaa Day approaches. Whether the youth will rally together or remain divided remains to be seen.
