Willy Chelewa, 28, passed away after recently participating in the Nairobi City Marathon half-marathon.
Peter Mulinge, the county police chief, said he died after consuming tea and rice at a guesthouse in Kaptagat, where he usually trains.
While the inquiry into the cause of his death continues, police obtained samples of the food he consumed before he collapsed.
Willy Chelewa, who recently finished 67th in the Nairobi City Marathon half marathon in 65 minutes and 30 seconds, collapsed and died in his hotel room where he was training in the Kapatagat area.
County police commander Peter Mulinge confirmed the incident, stating that Chelewa ate rice and tea before passing away.
The hotel’s management reported his death, and authorities have already gathered food samples for analysis.
The inquiry into his death is ongoing, and the cause of death remains unknown.
Chelewa had additionally acquired sponsorship from a Chinese company for an international competition.
