NPS Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has resigned
Kenya Police Service Deputy Inspector General Douglas Kanja will replace IG Koome as acting IG.

Ruto has appointed James Kamau as the Acting Deputy Inspector General of the Administrative Police Service.
Ruto appointed IG Koome in September 2022 to the post of Inspector General of Police. He was vetted by the National Assembly and the Senate gave Koome a clean slate for the role.
Koome took over from Hillary Mutyambai who went on final leave. He was a former Nairobi County Police Commander and Commander of the National Police Academy, Kiganjo.
Koome is a police officer who has risen to the rank of Inspector General. He served as the Chief Police Officer at the Central Police Station in Nairobi and the Nairobi regional commander.
Koome was later transferred to the police headquarters to serve as deputy chief of the deputy inspector general of police Edward Mbugua.
