Pastors of various churches in Kiambu county have called on President Ruto to reduce the rate of taxes and fees for Kenyans in this new year 2024, claiming the year 2023 has been difficult for many Kenyans due to the increase in various fees.
The pastors were speaking in a joint meeting on the last day of 2023 where they asked the country’s leader to focus on making life easier for the voters by reducing or removing some of the taxes that have become a heavy burden for them.
“I want to thank almighty God for bringing us to the end of this year, this past year has been difficult, people had nothing in their pockets and even the holiday people had nothing to show off. But I want to ask our government, because we are now in another year, to try to look at the tax matters that have emptied pockets of Kenyans, and if they look at things, things will be fine for them,” said one.
“We have good expectations that our government will grow the economy and things will be right so that every Kenyan can be satisfied while in this country because we are proud to be Kenyans,” another added.
”The year 2023 has been difficult especially for those with low income jobs, it has been difficult for them to get food, it has been a problem for children to study. Like this time when children expect to go back to school, we have seen difficulties because many do not know if they will send the children back to school, but we have faith if the government puts things the way they should, there will be a good change of things,” another woman added.
The year 2023 is the year in which the parliament passed a financial bill that has been mentioned by many, especially from the opposition wing, as oppressing ordinary citizens with low economic income.
