NTSA Road and NHIF officers sensitised boda boda riders on the importance of road safety and health insurance during the exercise’s launch on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the Githurai 44 Chief’s office.
In partnership with the National Transport Authority (NTSA) and the National Hospital Fund (NHIF), betting company Pakakumi has launched a road safety campaign aimed at boda boda motorbike riders.
The betting company launched the initiative with boda boda people based in Roysambu constituency’s Githurai 44 in Nairobi.
Pakakumi Business Development Officer who is the brainchild behind the initiative said they cannot initiate the program without involving the key stakeholders in the boda boda industry and that’s why they brought on board NTSSA, NHIF and the local boda boda leadership.

According to Kariuki, the Business developmennt officer, this will be the betting firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the 2023/24 financial year. The sensitisation exercises will be held sensitisation every two weeks in different parts of the country.
The Githurai 44 Boda Boda Association chairman Gerald Kibe nicknamed “General” commended the idea saying it’s the first time that they have been engaged in such advocacy projects to empower the riders.

The NTSA has voiced concerns over the past four years regarding the rise in accidents brought on by bodaboda drivers.
The boda boda business in Kenya has generated a lot of buzz and drawn attention to the industry’s dynamics, risks, and needed reforms.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) ranked motorcycles as the most dangerous type of mode of transport in 2022.
According to data, bodabodas contributed to the highest number of fatalities in 2022 recording 1,209 fatalities.
This is an increase compared to 1,154 recorded in the previous year.
