Nigerian sensation, Yemi Alade, has unveiled her latest single titled “Fake Friends,” which will be featured in her upcoming album. This captivating blend of Afropop and Highlife not only provides an infectious groove but also delves into the complexities of human connections and the consequences of insincere love or friendship.

With this relatable new single, Yemi Alade celebrates the authenticity of genuine friendships while keeping fake friends at a distance. “Fake Friends” (Iro Ore) serves as the leading track from her highly anticipated seventh album scheduled for release in 2023.

In a statement, Alade expressed, “This upcoming project embodies my thoughts, needs, experiences, stories, ideas, and my longing to connect with each listener through every song. Each track carries powerful narratives.”

The lyrics of “Fake Friends” transport Yemi back to her humble beginnings, as she reflects on her past. She sings, “Will you be there if I have no money in my pocket? When I lived my life on a tight budget? Ignoring your calls, you got mad at me. When I knocked on your door, you pretended not to be home.”

Yemi Alade has established herself as a powerhouse in orchestrating global hits that ignite viral trends and receive widespread acclaim. “Fake Friends” follows the success of her 2023 singles, namely “Pounds & Dollars” featuring Phyno, “Baddie,” “Jojo” featuring Bisa Kdei, and “Bright Future” with Mr. Vegas. These releases have collectively amassed over 17 million views on YouTube alone.

In May 2023, Yemi graced the inaugural cover of Nigeria’s Marie Claire magazine. Beyond her work in the studio, she continues to make a significant impact in the entertainment industry, assuming various roles as a composer, actress, and producer.

Recently, she announced her position as the inaugural global ambassador of WinFund. Additionally, she serves as a coach and judge on the ongoing season 1 of The Voice Africa.

Earned the moniker “Mama Africa” due to her deep love for African heritage and the continent as a whole, Yemi Alade is also revered for her extraordinary stage presence, captivating thousands of fans in stadiums across Africa, Europe, and the United States.
