Newcastle manager Eddie Howe addressed the recent rumors linking the club with big names such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.
With the club being one of the richest in the world following its recent takeover, many fans and pundits have speculated that they could make a move for players of this caliber.
Newcastle to recruit wisely
However, when asked about these potential transfers, Howe emphasized the importance of recruiting wisely and focusing on top young players rather than simply going after big names. He stated, “Naturally everyone has assumed the biggest names are coming, but we can’t recruit that way. We can’t just pick a name and bring them in, and can’t sign players we don’t want – we need to recruit wisely.”
While acknowledging the incredible talent of Ronaldo and Neymar, Howe made it clear that he is not wasting time on speculation and is instead focused on the direction he wants to take the team in. He stated, “Those two players [Ronaldo and Neymar] are incredible. But I don’t waste time over speculation. I know the direction I want to take the team in and what we can and can’t do in the market.”
Discovering talents
Moreover, Howe highlighted the importance of discovering young talent before they become household names. He added, “We want to discover them before they explode onto the world stage. We need to go underneath, find them young.”
Howe’s comments suggest that Newcastle may be taking a more long-term approach to their recruitment strategy, focusing on building a strong foundation with young talent rather than making splashy signings for immediate success.
