The Kenyan Senate has announced its intention to investigate the fuel subsidy scandal that occurred during the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The investigation will focus on allegations of corruption within the fuel subsidy program that is believed to have contributed to the country’s economic struggles.

Uhuru Kenyatta Fuel Subsidy

Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has taken the lead in calling for the investigation, citing evidence of corruption that was even used to finance political campaigns.

According to Cherargei, the fuel subsidy scandal has been a significant drain on the economy, which has been inherited by the current administration of H.E. Ruto.

The fuel subsidy program, which was intended to reduce the cost of fuel for Kenyan consumers, has been mired in controversy since its inception.

Critics have accused the government of mismanaging the program and using it as a way to siphon off public funds for personal gain.

“I have moved the senate to investigate the Fuel subsidy scandal under Uhuru/Tinga Handshake government. The fuel subsidy was riddled with corruption that was even used to finance Azimio-OKA campaigns !. This is the reason the economy inherited by H.E Ruto was mtumba !” reads Cherargei’s tweet.

Investigations  to Restore Public Trust

The Senate’s investigation is expected to shed light on the extent of corruption within the program and identify those responsible for its mismanagement.

It is hoped that the investigation will help to restore public trust in the government and pave the way for much-needed reforms in the energy sector.
