Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly has addressed speculation surrounding his potential departure from the club this summer.
The player, who joined Chelsea last summer for a fee of £33 million, has stated his desire to remain with the club for the foreseeable future.
In an interview with The Times, Koulibaly said: “I know I’m not at 100 per cent yet, but I think I’m coming to my level. Chelsea made a big decision to sign me and there’s a big desire in me to give back. I want to be part of this club for many years.”
Koulibaly also acknowledged that the current season has not gone as well as expected for Chelsea. He said, “This is not the year Chelsea were expecting, but sometimes when you have big changes, new proprietors, and half the team is new, everybody has to adapt.”
Despite the challenges, Koulibaly remained optimistic about the club’s future. “But we know how big the ambition is here and we’re going to work to win back the confidence of the supporters,” he added.
Koulibaly’s comments are likely to reassure Chelsea fans who have been concerned about the defender’s future at the club. The 30-year-old’s performances this season have been somewhat inconsistent, leading to speculation that he may be sold in the summer transfer window. However, his comments suggest that he is committed to Chelsea and eager to help the club return to its winning ways.
