AFC Leopards, one of the most successful clubs in Kenyan football, has confirmed that their next match will be played behind closed doors.
The decision comes as the club awaits their appeal hearing at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) on Monday, April 25, 2023.
AFC Leopards vs Kakamega Homeboyz
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Committee recently ruled against AFC Leopards in their match against Kakamega Homeboyz. The game, which was played at Bukhungu Stadium last Sunday, was declared botched after center referee Michael Obuya was assaulted by a section of Leopards fans.
The Committee awarded Kakamega Homeboyz three points and two goals, while deducting three points from AFC Leopards. In addition, the club was fined Ksh. 500,000 and ordered to play their next four league matches behind closed doors.
AFC Leopards has confirmed that they will comply with the ruling and play their next match against KCB FC at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Sunday, April 23, 2023, without fans in attendance. The decision is a blow to the club, which has a passionate fan base that has always rallied behind them in their matches.
In a statement, the club expressed their disappointment with the ruling, but acknowledged that they have to respect the decision of the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee. They also appealed to their fans to support the team from home, as they continue their fight for justice in the upcoming appeal hearing.
