The upcoming Benjamin Ayimba Legacy tournament, scheduled to take place from 7-9 April 2023 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, has received a significant boost with a sponsorship of 1.2 million Kenyan shillings from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
This tournament is being held to commemorate and honor the late Kenyan rugby legend Benjamin Ayimba, who co-founded the Masaku Team and the Kenya Rugby League Federation.
“We are keen on supporting sports and nurturing talents that we are endowed with to be able to compete and market our country on the global stage. We are proud to be associated with this tournament that honors the late Rugby icon & legend Benjamin Ayimba because of what he achieved for Kenya,” Jack Bwana, GM Marketing & Business Dev at KAA said.

“This is a timely boost to our efforts to be able to deliver a top class tournament in remembrance of our departed brother and also continue to grow the game of Rugby in the country. So far preparations are well on course and well shall deliver as per the expectations of Kenyans,” Quicks Nyakwaka, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee said.
The Kenya Rugby League Federation partnered with the County Government of Machakos earlier this year to launch the Benjamin Ayimba Legacy annual tournament. The tournament will feature three categories – men’s, women’s, and developmental sides, catering to a diverse range of participants.
A portion of the proceeds generated from this tournament will be utilized to support the Machakos Children’s Home and promote the development of rugby in the region.
This partnership between the rugby federation, local government, and KAA highlights the significance of supporting sports and youth development in Kenya.
