The inspiring story of Safara Gathimiti, a former street child who transformed life through his talent. He is now eating life with a fork.

Safara Gathimiti’s life.

Before his celebrity, Safara Gathimiti and his friends were used to spending nights on the streets of the capital, just like other ‘Chokoras.’ Without a place to call home or even to stay when it gets late. Their lives were only in the hands of God, the only one who could protect them.

His life on the streets, he claims, was not easy. When it rained, they were forced to seek shelter beneath the Nairobi River’s bridges. And even find refuge on the riverbanks.

You might be wondering why chokoras dress in filthy and worn-out clothes. It’s not because they enjoy being in that state, but because they lack the proper clothing to keep them looking clean. That was the situation for Safara Gathimiti and his friends, who were unable to take a bath as a result.

The success story of Safara Gathimiti.

Gathimiti was detained for two years before he could shift his ways. This was the moment when the former street boy decided to use his talent to change his life.

He was able to serve his God through gospel music, hoping that one day things would improve and he would be able to find his way off the street. He formed a group with friends and began composing gospel songs. One of the songs, ‘Mungu bariki chokora,’ went viral, bringing attention to their plight.
Mungai eve came to their aid, and through their interview, they were able to secure a well-wisher who offered to record a song for them.

Safara Gathimiti’s and his crew’s lives were forever changed after that. They went from being street kids to having a respectable brand built around their talent thanks to God.

They are now living lavishly while performing Gospel music for God. Their brand has received numerous endorsements, which have earned them a large sum of money. Something they never considered a few years ago.
