Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala penned a heartfelt 17-word post to outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta on the day William Ruto was officially handed the Commander-in-Chief duties.
Omanyala struck a great friendship with Kenyatta who has been one of the sprinter’s great fans since he burst into the continental and global athletics scene last year.
The former head of state got an opportunity to watch Omanyala live in action in May this year during the Kipkeino Classic. The 26-year-old did not disappoint as he sprinted to victory in front of a jubilant home crowd in the World Athletics Continental Tour event.
More competition and congratulations would come Omanyala’s way as he reached the semis at the Worlds before lifting the Commonwealth title in Birmingham, early August 2022.
Omanyala had earlier congratulated Ruto on his victory but followed this with a post that expressed gratitude to #The4th
He captioned a photo of him and Uhuru: “Happy retirement…..hope u will not stop coming to watch my races. Thank you for your service. 🫡”
Omanyala holds the African men’s 100m record after clocking a time of 9.77 seconds at the Kip Keino Classic meeting in Nairobi in September 2021.
