After finishing his degree course in Public health, Erastus Ayieko Otieno (Flaqo Raz), like every other graduate in Kenya, was balancing between putting out job applications and resumes and seeing whether talent might bring a breakthrough.
Today, Erastus has perfected the art of sketch comedy, which everyone in Kenya and beyond can easily connect to, having spent most of his childhood in Kisumu city, Nyanza from primary school to university.
If you look into his childhood and how he grew up it will reveal a lot about the inspiration for his amusing videos and sense of humour.
Flaqo, who is self-aware of his multitalented abilities, began creating comedic skits representing African mothers and various Kenyan singers in the music industry.
His first attempt at playing numerous characters in a short video skit was as ‘Mama Otis,’ who symbolizes an African mother, and ‘Otis,’ who depicts a typical African youth.
The interplay of these two individuals demonstrates how an African family is structured when the children are better educated and exposed to more metropolitan influences than their parents.
Conflict arises when these two worlds struggle to coexist, making the interplay amusing and enjoyable.
Erastus purchased a blue Volkswagen convertible vehicle and a home in Nairobi with a production studio in mid-2021.
Flaqo said during the initial days of his internet fame that he earned around KES 20 million per year as an influencer, linking his name to various products.
He has worked with a variety of corporations, including Naivas, Samsung, Yola, Airtel, and others.
His large YouTube following provides him with a steady source of cash from views and video sponsorships.
Flaqo’s net worth is projected to be above KES 30 million as of 2022.
