Dr Joan Ruguru Kimani, the most recent graduate of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, recently made news when she was nominated to Forbes Africa’s list of the top 30 under 30 Africans, along with three other Kenyans.

Outstanding Blogger

Kimani’s main goal with her brand, ‘Exciting Parenting,’ is to put a positive light on parenting and educate parents about their children’s health.

“I launched the firm with KES 3,000, which I used for name search and domain registration,” she said to Forbes Africa.

“I saw this as an opportunity to provide expert advice on parenting and child health.” Other areas, such as marriage and real estate, have information providers who have committed their entire careers to this type of work. “I learned that the realm of parenting was rather limited.”

The best example to other young people

Ruguru, a Maryhill Girls alumni, spoke about her achievement, noting that it serves as an example to young people that their passions and interests may be transformed into lucrative careers.

“I consider it a confirmation of my efforts as well as a lesson in consistency in undertakings in which one is engaged.” The fact that I have been doing it for free demonstrates that people may benefit from freely giving back to the community. “I’ve been blogging for 7 years, and my audiences and numbers have grown,” she explained.

The doctor believes that her writing is what attracted her to the team of Forbes Africa editors who sorted through hundreds of nominations to investigate, verify, and evaluate all contenders.

Stiff competition

For the seventh year in a row, the list highlights Africans under the age of 30 who are contributing to the continent’s progress.

The only Kenyans on the list this year were Ruguru, comedian Elsa Majimbo, e-gamer Sylvia Gathoni, and Mukuru Clean Stoves entrepreneur Charlot Magayi.

Dr Ruguru will also lead Kiambu County in the next “Ms President Academy and Competition” funded by the European Union and the United Nations.
