CNN hero cheboi

Cheboi gained breakthroughs in her profession and businesses in early 2018 when she began collecting discarded PCs in the United States.

She chose to transport the computers to Kenya while managing customs fees and taxes on her own.

Cheboi currently collaborates with transportation and shipping businesses to send donated PCs at a lower cost.

CNN Heroes praised Cheboi, saying that she realized what she wanted was to share her computer literacy with her community back home.

The young girl attributes her love for computers to her ability to obtain work and make money while doing what she enjoys.

Today, via her non-profit organization, TechLit Africa, the 29-year-old is providing 4,000 youngsters in Kenya a better future.

They are also given numerous opportunities to learn from professionals and build skills that will aid in their schooling and prepare them for future careers.

Her company, whose name is an abbreviation for Technologically Literate Africa, has gone further to build technology laboratories in remote Kenyan schools.

The old computers are cleaned and repaired before being handed to partner schools in rural Kenya, where pupils aged 4 to 12 attend regular sessions.

The company helps in installing new child-friendly client operating systems, and schools are charged a minimal price for services that include TechLit instructors on site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We have individuals coming in that have a special ability and they’re simply encouraging students (with) music creation, video production, coding, and personal branding,” Cheboi said.

Selfless Cheboi utilized her abilities and opportunity to bring computers to Kenya so that children from low-income families may learn.
