Kenya international Mercy Moim has enrolled for volleyball coaching classes with an aim of turning out to become a coach after retiring from the game.

The expirienced outside hitter is currently among the 29 local based volleyball personnel who are taking the FIVB level one coaching course ongoing at the Nyayo national stadium in Nairobi. The five day training session started on Monday 13th and will end up in June 17, 2022.

The KCB captain who lead the Kenya national women’s volleyball team to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan remains to be the youngest ever volleyball player to feature for Malkia strikers. She made her first appearance for Kenya at a tender age of 15.

Moim made her debut in the national team in 2006 and she has played for different clubs across the world among them being Supreme Volleyball Club in Thailand and Liiga Plooki in Belarus.

Moim was appointed to be the captain of Kenya’s team in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics at Brazil. In 2021 when Kenya qualified for the Olympic games after a sixteen year absence, She was again tasked to captain the team for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo by  coach Paul Busienei Bitok. Veteran setter Jane Wacu was in the team as colleagues Violet Makuto and Elizabeth Wanyama were not included in the dozen players chosen to travel.

Moim and Kenya rugby seven’s star Andrew Amonde were chosen to be Kenya’s flagbearers at the Olympics opening ceremony in Tokyo. Moim was the second woman to be given this honour following archer Shazad Anwar in 2016.
