Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Salim Babu say’s he is greatful to have met his target’s that he had set when joining the club in February 2022.
The former Sony Sugar FC and Western Stima FC trainer joined the sugar millers in second leg of the just ended 2021/22 season replacing Ibrahim Shikanda who had left at the start of the year.
“ I came here when the team was at their lowest moment, the players were good but I think they just lacked motivation or someone who could push them to do something extra. My first assignment with my technical bench was to instill morale to them (Players) and fortunately everything started showing up by itself. My first aim was to make sure that we’re not relegated at all and then set up plans for next season and I’m greatful everything went on well as my wish was”, Babu told KenyanTrend on Sunday after defeating AFC Leopards at home.
Speaking about how the survival quest was to him, he said it was an awesome challenge to him and the team.
“ It was a tough examination but we tried our level best to work without pressure in order we make everything go right. The league is a marathon competition and if you force yourself to work under pressure, the possibility of messing up are at a higher stake. Congratulations to my boy’s for being keen and making it happen”, added the tactician.
Talking about his next season ambitions, the experienced coach revealed that he won’t be competing for the league title but he will be competing favourably and make sure he finishes in a better position than what he achieved in his debut season.
“ Actually I can’t assure you that I’m going for the league next season, No. This team is still budding and I want to make it more competitive and chase for better position. We have already set up plans with the technical team on how we will take that to the wall and we will achieve it because the team consists of very young players”.
The Bungoma based premier league outfit finished at position 15 with 34 points from 34 league outings.
