“Choose something you are passionate about,” is the worst advice someone can provide to an entrepreneur or job seeker. People take occupations only for the aim of making money. Otherwise, it’s a hobby or a charitable endeavour.
I have a responsibility as a pastor. For seven years, I was the pastor of a Nairobi-based church, but I left to return to my home county of Embu and explore something new.

Start With What You’ve Got

With a capital of less than KES 20,000, I started an agribusiness, principally producing seedlings from various fruits and plants to become a farmer.

I began tiny, but after analyzing the seedling demand market, I recognized it was a successful lawful business, therefore I extended seedling land.

Under the name Kamiu Horticultural Nurseries, I presently own 26 acres.

My enthusiasm for seed nurseries, on the other hand, extends back to my childhood, and turning it into a business has been a game changer.

Hass avocados, tree tomatoes, passion fruit, mangoes, macadamia, oranges, lemons, tissue bananas, and other fruit seedlings are among the fruit seedlings I grow. I sell seedlings for KES50 to KES400 depending on the fruit and kind.

My seed and seedling sources include Kalro (Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation) and other certified farmers.

Agriculture, like any other sector, has its limitations, including bad weather, insect attacks, and insufficient supplies.

Blessing to Newbies

Others seek my agricultural expertise to tap into my well-established commercial channels.

They’ll hurry to tarnish my name, especially on social media, alleging I duped them if the deal goes through due to unforeseen circumstances. This may put off prospective consumers.

I sell seedlings to other farms, county governments, businesses, non-profits, and community-based groups.

Investment Returns

My annual earnings fluctuate, but in a good year, I can earn over KES1 million. While business is slow, I’ll make roughly KES250,000.

Tree farming is a lucrative industry in Kenya, with the potential to earn millions of dollars depending on the quantity and type of trees you have. To begin is the most important component of the entire method.
