Goals from Collins Shivachi and Nigerian striker Ojo Olaniyi Fasanmi in both halves were enough for the former champions to beat title-chasers Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday afternoon.

Leopards took the lead three minutes in the game with a goal from defender Collins Shivachi following an intense pressure mounted on Homeboyz keeper Steve Otieno. The hosts had a chance to bring matters to level in the 13th minute through a set piece on Ingwe’s side but efforts to bag an equalizer were brought down by captain Moses Mudavadi.

AFC Leopard’s were forced to an early substitution in the 27th minute after budding striker Maxwell Otieno picked up an injury, his position replaced by Kenya international winger Cliff Nyakeya. The Bernard Mwalala coached side had numerous opportunities to take an equalizer before the break but there efforts were unfruitful, game stoping 1-0 at half time.

The second half started on a high note, Leopard’s attempting to stretch their lead through Eugene Mukangula but his attempt went over the bar, moments later Nigerian import Ojo Olaniyi Fasanmi strike extended the lead for the visitors to 2-0, sending the fully packed stadia to jubilation in the 54th minute.

Still in the second half, AFC keeper Levis Opiyo was a busy man as he received firing shots from Homeboyz striking trio of Yema Mwana, Mike Isabwa and Gaetan Masha at different intervals before the game ending 2-0 in favor of Ingwe.

Kakamega Homeboyz FC hopes to win their maiden FKF Premier League title still remains in the dark after falling down 2-0 to big boy’s AFC Leopards in the roughly contested “Ingo Derby”, but they’ll have to comeback from slumber and face defending champions Tusker FC in the race to clinch the 2021/22 season title.
