List of Kenyan billionaires owning gas companies in Kenya

With the country developing gradually, most Kenyans have shifted from using charcoal, kerosene and other forms of fuel to using Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) in their daily activities. This has led to the rise of LPG’s demand in the country and this demand has attracted several investors who are working to supply this important commodity to Kenyans.

Even though Kenya’s petroleum industry is flooded with foreign investors, there are Kenyan billionaires who enjoy high stakes in this lucrative industry. Below is a list of Kenyan billionaires and the gas companies they own.

Raila Odinga

Mr. Odinga is popular for his immense contribution to the political scenes. What most people are not aware of is that the politician has high stakes in the Petroleum industry. Mr. Odinga owns East African Spectre, a company which produces and supplies gas throughout East Africa. The company is known for producing gas of various weights with that of 3KG being the most popular one.

Mr. Ahmed Hashi

Mr. Ahmed Hashi is the founder of Hashi company limited. The company is behind Hashi petrol stations distributed across the country and Hashi gas which is also a popular LPG brand across the country.

Mr. William Ruto

The deputy president has also thrown some resources into this lucrative industry. According to interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi, Ruto owns the little known Kitengela gas company which is secured by government’s General Service Unit police officers. Before the revelation by Dr. Fred, very few people connected the brand to the Deputy President.

Muhammad Jaffer

Mr. Muhammad is the investor behind the common Pro Gas brand. The product is under Africa Gas and Oil (AGOL) which owns Proto Energy Limited under which the popular Pro Gas is sold.

Peter Macharia Kariuki

Mr. Kariuki is behind Jamii gas brand which is popular in Nairobi county and its environs. Is not popular because it has been overshadowed by various developed brands but with the ever expanding market, the brand is gaining fame and loyal customers.

The other gas brands are owned by foreign investors and collection of many investors who have pulled up their resources to venture into this ever growing industry.
