Dorcas Muthoni is the president and owner of Openworld Ltd, a specialized computer technology company she created in Kenya when she was just 24 years old. The Internet Society just inducted her into the Internet Hall of Fame.
She is a fantastic role model for the future generation of African young women who want to work in technology. She is a woman to keep an eye on in Africa’s sector of technological entrepreneurship, both now and the future.
She tells her narrative of achievement.
“My success story began many years ago, when I was one of the first women engineers to work with the Kenya educational network, aiding in the creation of university networks.
Later, I founded Open World, an open-source corporation that specializes in e-government software, as well as AfChix, a regional technical capacity-building initiative for women,” she revealed
“Many women have been taught in AfChix chapters around Africa, and these women have gone on to become trainers and instruct more women. We have established a high school mentorship program, which entails gathering females from secondary schools across Kenya and asking female engineers, web developers, and computer engineers to mentor and advise them. This has had a tremendous impact during the previous 10 years. It gives me great joy to see so many exceptional female engineers emerge from many professions “she continued.
Muthoni’s aggressive business mentality and her seemingly inborn inventiveness when it comes to finding answers to major problems and problem-solving in general.
Her enthusiasm and love for what she does, as well as her ability to juggle her time, corporate obligations, specific consulting projects, and work/life balance, is amazing.
The Women’s Forum dubbed her a Rising Talent, a group of very outstanding women with the potential to become prominent in the future.
The World Economic Forum designated her a Young Global Leader, a group of outstanding leaders under the age of 40 from throughout the world.
For her contributions to the growth of engineering education among African females, mentorship of young people, and social commitment in the fight against poverty, she was awarded Honoris Causa at Pompeu Fabra University.
Openworld has grown to become a leading e-Government and corporate application software company in Africa, delivering some of the continent’s most widely used Web and Cloud applications, such as ARIS, an African Union reporting application used by all 54 member states, and the Performance Management System for the Government of Kenya, which automates public sector performance contracting.
